In love with The Grand Budapest Hotel by Wes Anderson

I flipping love Wes Anderson so have been beside myself for months awaiting his latest offering, The Grand Budapest Hotel.

I love his cinematography, his meandering story lines, colour palette and casting – just about everything that people who really don’t enjoy his films like to criticise and label as being same in each of his movies. How wrong those people are.

I won’t say too much about the film it’s self, as I don’t want to spoil it for those who haven’t yet had a chance to see it, but I will say that there are portions of the story set in a bakery called Mendl’s where they make elaborate cream cakes, such as the courtesan au chocolat. Another thing that filled me full of joy was the opening sequence, which reminded me of one of my favourite artworks by Joseph Cornell, Setting for a Fairytale.

Very much looking forward to it coming out on DVD so that I can see it again 🙂
