I’m getting a bit behind with my blogging, but today I thought I would share some photos my recent trip to the E5 Bakehouse to learn all about the mystic art of working with sourdough. I’ve had mixed success in the past when baking with sourdough and maintaining healthy starter, so very kindly my mum gave me a voucher to go on a bread making course for my birthday…which I then got round to using 7 months later!
E5 Bakehouse make some darn fine looking and tasting bread, so it was an honour to be able to go behind the scenes and learn from Will, one of their full time bakers. We made several breads, discussed technique and different approaches around the world to sourdough. We also got to have delicious lunch and afternoon tea. The cakes were so dreamy, I can’t wait to go back to London for more of their pecan slices.
What I really took away from the course was confidence in my skills, a deeper understanding of the processes that happen when you bake with sourdough and I’m really looking forward to sharing some of what I picked up over the next few months here.
